2312664 – Analog Circuit Design

This course introduces the fundamentals of chip design, starting with microchip fabrication techniques like photolithography and CMOS technologies, and covers the analog design flow from schematics to layout. It then explains into MOSFET physics, including structure, operating regions, and key features like threshold voltage, saturation, and channel length modulation, both large- and small-signal models. The course explores basic analog building blocks such as current mirrors, differential amplifiers, and cascode amplifiers, emphasizing feedback analysis, gain calculation, and frequency response. Students also study charge-sensitive amplifiers, clocked circuits, and a few ADC architectures like flash, time-based, and algorithmic converters. Special attention is given to noise analysis, including thermal and flicker noise, and how to optimize designs for signal-to-noise ratio and speed. Practical skills are reinforced through hands-on exercises that cover design and optimization of a charge-sensitive amplifier, ADC simulation, and comparator design from schematics to DRC/LVS verification.
