1800012 – Seminar: Picasso. Bilder gegen den Krieg

Picassos „Guernica“ ist eines der prominentesten Beispiele für die Politisierung der Avantgarde in den 1930er Jahren. Im Seminar wollen wir Picassos Auseinandersetzung mit dem Krieg in den Blick nehmen, vor allem seine Arbeiten zum Spanischen Bürgerkrieg, zum 2. Weltkrieg und zum Koreakrieg. Es wird um die Ikonografie und die Ästhetik der Werke gehen, aber auch um die Fragen nach der politischen Positionierung von Künstlern und nach der politischen Wirksamkeit von Kunst. Picasso's "Guernica" is one of the most prominent examples of the politicization of the avant-garde in the 1930s. In this seminar, we will dicuss Picasso's dealing with the topic of war, especially his works on the Spanish Civil War, World War II, and the Korean War. We will focus on the iconography and aesthetics of his works against the war, but also on the issues of political positioning of artists and political effectiveness of art.
