2177020 – Microstructure-Property-Relationships
Information regarding the lecture and exercises „Microstructure-Property-Relationships“
Lecture: The lecture will be in an inverted classroom format. Videos covering the entire content are provided via ILIAS in advance. Students have to work through the videos and prepare themselves for an in-depth discussion. Subsequently, during 7 classroom meetings (i.e. one for each chapter) the knowledge will be applied and discussed. The content of the videos will not be repeated in the classroom, nor will there be any new content. It is the aim of the classroom meetings to apply the basics taught in the videos to fundamental problems. Consequently, students will benefit most of this inverted classroom format if they are (very) well prepared. Please bring a cell-phone with internet connection to these classroom meetings, as we will use Mentimeter then.
Classroom-Meetings are (Tuesdays and Fridays):
22.10.2021, 08:00 – 09:30 Chapter 0: Introduction, schedule and formalities
16.11.2021, 08:00 – 09:30 Chapter 1: Elasticity, Plasticity and Dislocations
30.11.2021, 08:00 – 09:30 Chapter 2: Strengthening Mechanisms

Oral exams (25 min each) will be held on 14.02.2022 and 07.03.2022.
Exercises: Supplementary to the lecture, tutorials will be held in 4 classroom meetings, aiming at the exertion of the lecture contents to practical applications. For this, exercises will be available via ILIAS beforehand. The students are supposed to consider approaches to solve the exercises individually in advance, that will be worked out jointly at the blackboard during the meetings. Subsequently, videos of model solutions will be made available via ILIAS for reference and comparison.
Successful completion of the tutorials is a prerequisite to attend the final examination of the lecture. This will be certified in a 15 min colloquium to be held at the end of the lecture season. There, 3-4 representative exercises will be discussed. The colloquium needs to be registered as a “Prüfungsvorleistung” online.
