2122303 – Business Administration for Engineers and IT Professionals – Betriebsmanagement für Ingenieure und Informatiker

In a winter semester, I speak English. In a summer semester, I speak German. Participants (max. 12) can speak and write German, English or mixed. The extensive course material (partly for self-study) is mostly both English and German. As an engineer, do you want to take on management positions in industrial companies? Most people never get promoted, and most managers are fired at some point in their careers… even CEOs. A long-term, good career over 40+ years isn't a given — and one without killer stress and with lots of joy in life even less so. In this in-person seminar, you will acquire essential know-how in business, finance, and management through work in small teams (usually 3 people) on diverse, practical business cases and through lectures. It will help you to be successful and happy in your career. The business cases take place in different industries, in different corporate functions, and at different hierarchical levels. Through your 3-minute presentations of team results, you develop a confident and professional demeanor as a leader (executive presence) and your ability to focus on the core of a matter. Since you, as a manager, produce results through your subordinates, you also acquire some knowledge of reading and influencing people. Some finance-oriented exercises are predominantly deterministic. Other realistic exercises, like 90% of managerial problems, are vague and uncertain. There is no clear right or wrong. Uncertainty frightens us (more or less depending on our degree of emotional stability) because we lose control. A methodical approach is crucial here. These exercises will help you develop judgment. However, this only works if you think through the tasks yourself and formulate the results appropriately for each task. This will train your thinking process. As a student, you cannot and do not have to provide optimal professional solutions. Please do not try to avoid the effort of thinking and bluff with incomprehensible AI garbage. It is also necessary that you contribute appropriately to the success of your team. If you are committed to participating in this seminar intensively and with a focus on quality, and can dedicate yourself fully to it until the end, then you are welcome here and will significantly improve your career opportunities. 8x Tue 09:45 – approx. 13:10. 27.10.2026, 10.11., 24.11., 08.12., 22.12., 19.01.2027, 02.02., 16.02. Building 20.20, 2nd floor, IMI Room 267.
