2169430 – Advanced Course on Aircraft Propulsion

The lecture „Advanced Course on Aircraft Propulsion“ overlaps the Bachelor’s lecture „Turbinen-Luftstrahl-Triebwerke“ (given in German language) to a wide degree. However, as this lecture is on a Master’s program level additional aspects such as turbine cooling, transonic turbo machines, radial flow turbo machines and gas turbine performance have been included. Additionally, a thorough look into relevant fundamentals like an excerpt of gas dynamics will complement the lecture, too. Some parts of the contents will have to be dealt with in form of self-studies as a homework and will be discussed only briefly in the following lecture. A sound knowledge of the relevant fundamentals – thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and technical mechanics – is a prerequisite to a successful participation in this course. Knowledge of the Thermal Turbomachinery part of the lecture “Machines and Processes” will be required as well. Physical presence in the lectures is strongly recommended in order to have the possibility to ask questions and actively participate in discussions which will help to understand and digest the frequently challenging contents of the lecture. Forming learning groups when preparing for the oral exam is also suggested.
