Wichtige Informationen
The lecture will take place as an in-person event in building 10.81, room 219.1. It will begin on April 22, 2026, and will be held on Wednesdays from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. The exercises will be included in the lecture.
Exam
The oral examination will take place on: August 18, 19, 20, and September 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 29, 30, and Oktober 1 (2026).
1. Please register online in the CAS system under the number 76-T-MACH-113574 before exam dates are assigned.
2. Send your preferred exam dates to sabine.deubig@kit.edu.
3. Exam times will be assigned via email (contact: sabine.deubig@kit.edu).
The exam will take place on the North Campus in Building 681, Room 330 (2nd floor).
Please note that you must register at the security gate. You will need your identity card for this. Please allow some time for this process.

Oral examination (about 30 min)
1. Fundamentals in atom physics
- Radiation basics
- Interactions (scattering, capture, decay, transmutation, cross-sections)
- Neutronics (spectra, fission/fusion, moderation, shielding)
2. Radiation sources
- Accelerators
- Spallation sources
3. Irradiation induced material damage
- Damage mechanisms (displacement, lattice defects, diffusion)
- Specific irradiation phenomena (swelling, radiation creep, non-equilibrium thermodynamics)
- Irradiation induced changes of material properties (hardening, embrittlement)
4. Applications and material selection
5. Material challenges in nuclear fusion
