If you are not worried about profits the electricity business is an exciting place to be right now. Plans about new battery technologies, hydrogen generation, new nuclear generation, smart electricity grids, carbon removal technologies, synthetic fuel and synthetic biology are abundant. Yet it makes investment difficult: where do you invest your money if it’s part of your retirement fund, for example? In hindsight the place where we are now is easy to explain. But the future is opaque. There is no guarantee that consumers will accept battery powered cars unless they become cheaper and offer more range. There is no guarantee that a hydrogen market can be established without long term subsidies or that sufficient producers are willing to make the initial investments. This course reviews what are prudent decisions under uncertainty.

Everyone who wants to understand which tools and techniques exist to make decisions under uncertainty (and is not afraid of learning what stochastic differential equations are).
