Objectives: The course aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the geoecology of food systems and food security globally for the past, present and potential future. Delivered online, the course comprises a mix of lectures, student exercises and a student projects to address both supply and demand issues for food production and its distribution. This includes the management and economics of agricultural systems as well as consumption patterns and human nutritional well-being. Timing: The course is structured around 6 half-day sessions combining lectures and exercises over 3 days, with an additional period of time for personal study and report writing. Evaluation: based on a student individual report (based on writing up the exercises with extended answers to the questions posed). Learning outcomes Understand how in the past present and future: 1. Global food systems and security are underpined by trends in supply, demand, trade and policy; 2. How changes in the food system have impacted on the broader environment; 3. The many trade-offs in the food system that affect how the system will evolve in the future.
